| Scaffolding hire | £1,296 | £827 to £2,057 |
Each figure is an average over many jobs; they appear to be regional figures rather than a survey of Cwmbran prices. They are not our prices and not a quote. A particular house can easily land above or below them.
What pushes a roofline price up or down
- Length. More metres of eaves means more boards, gutter and labour. The helper below gives a rough figure.
- Height and access. A bungalow edge is far simpler to reach than a three-storey gable. Scaffolding can be a large share of the total.
- Replace or cover. Taking timber down and fitting new boards costs more than capping over it.
- What is behind. Rotten rafter ends or perished eaves felt add work once the old boards are off.
- Concrete gutters. Removing them and rebuilding the eaves is a much larger job.
- Corners and extras. Hipped roofs, bays, porches and dormers all add joins and short runs.
- Materials and colour. Coloured, woodgrain or aluminium products usually cost more than white uPVC.

Roofline length helper
A rough idea of how many metres of fascia and gutter your house has, from a few simple answers. It gives lengths and points to mention, never a price; a proper measurement on site is what counts.
Worth telling an installer
A rough guide from simple shapes. Real houses have overhangs, kinks and extensions, so treat the figure as a starting point for the conversation, not a measurement.
Lining quotes up fairly
Two roofline quotes can be far apart simply because they cover different work. Check each one for:
- Whether the boards are replaced or covered.
- Every side of the house included, plus gable ends, porch and bay.
- The gutter profile, colour and number of downpipes.
- Scaffolding or tower, shown on its own line.
- Ventilation in the new soffits.
- Taking away the old material.
- The guarantee on materials and on workmanship.
The longer list of questions sits in the whole roofline guide.
Cost questions
Why is one quote much higher than another?
Usually because one replaces the timber and the other covers it, or because scaffolding is in one and missing from the other. Ask each installer to list what is included.
Is it cheaper to do the front now and the back later?
Each visit needs its own access, so splitting the work can cost more overall. Ask for both prices and compare.
Does a cheaper material save much?
Sometimes, but access and labour are a large part of most roofline jobs, so the material choice may move the total less than expected.
Curious what your house would cost?
The form asks about house type, storeys and what you have noticed, which is what shapes a price.
